When we made the decision to continue home schooling Jackson through high school, we agreed to employ outside help for several subjects. I knew I had neither the time nor the background to offer Jack the assistance he would need for the demanding English course that I wanted him to have.
Fortunately we didn’t need to look far. Given her enthusiasm and caring attitude toward learning, Denise was our first choice as Jackson’s English teacher. Her strong desire to make a difference in the lives of young people is apparent, and if you ask Jackson what his favorite subject is this year, you’ll hear an enthusiastic, “English!”
Together Denise and Jackson have read through Homer, Tolkien, and Dickens sparking an interest that I never anticipated. They discuss characters and motivations through daily correspondence.
Several years ago there were many tears shed as both Jackson and I struggled through this lot of his education. Reading had not come easily for him, and his already fragile confidence faded daily. Not so this year. Things are changing! He loves his English class and Denise is the reason.
As the perfect ending to our semester, Denise, Jackson and I made a trip to the BTE for a festive holiday production of A Christmas Carol. It was a fantastic show with all the drama of the Dickens original.
Thank you, Denise, for bringing this once frustrating course of study alive for Jackson. You truly do touch the hearts of those you teach.
Thank you so much for this touching post! I am also enjoying myself immensely, and I had a great time at the play last night!!! Hugs to you all!
